Camel International White Water Challenge 1996
In 1996 the Camel White Water Challenge is once again being held on the
awe-inspiring Zambezi River. This year the competition is expected to be
fiercer as only 1 men's team per country and a total of 4 ladies are being
invited, totaling 24 teams representing 20 countries. Countries are holding
selections to ensure that they choose the best team their country can
produce. Some of these selections are taking the form of national races
where the teams will pit themselves against each other to win the privilege
of representing their country at this, the world's premier white water
event. Next year the competition will move to another country (possibly
Canada or Russia).
Structure
The Camel Challenge will be held on the Zambezi River at Victoria Falls,
Zimbabwe, from the 12 - 19 September 1996. Teams will compete in a
demanding and exciting format of raft and kayak events in pursuit of the
prestigious Camel White Water Challenge Trophy. Each team will consist of 7
team members (6 members per raft with one reserve or kayaker). One of the 6
raft members can also be the team kayaker. The focus of the Camel Challenge
is on the raft events but it does include a kayak downriver race and a
kayak rodeo. Awards will be presented for the kayaking events but they do
not count towards the total points for the Camel White Water Challenge
Trophy. The events and preliminary programme are as follows:
